Sites planned for traveller groups

Radical proposals to create travellers sites across the Royal Borough have been released this week.

Nearly 80 specialist camps could be set up throughout Berkshire in the plans put forward by the South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA).

It says local authorities now have a duty to develop bases for travellers, gypsies and travelling showpeople and has drafted a provisional 10-year strategy and will make a formal recommendation to teh Government in April.

SEERA is putting the issue out to public consultation which runs until November 21.
People are being asked to have their say on new camping spaces and how they should be spread across the region.
The initial recommendation is that up to 78 new traveller spaces are needed in Berkshire.

The Royal Borough's planning and environmental scrutiny committee is due to discuss the amount of spaces needed in the borough at a meeting on Monday, November 3.
