Lifeline for historic red phone boxes?
2:10pm Wed 3rd Sep 08:: written by Justin Burns
Historic phones boxes which have stood for decades in the Royal Borough and in Marlow could be saved for aesthetical heritage purposes.
Earlier this year phone giant BT shortlisted two of the red classic structures for the chop in Mundaydean Lane and Seymour Court Road in Marlow.
However, Emma Littlejohn, BT regional press officer for London and South East said there is a way councils can hang onto their boxes for heritage puropses.
She said: "Authorities have the option to adopt or sponsor a box."
A range of new and old style booths also face the axe, including boxes in Bourne End - Whitepit Lane, Wooburn Green and Hedsor Road, Cookham - Dean Lane, Westwood Green, and Whyteladyes Lane, Maidenhead - Crauford Rise, Newlands Drive, Lee Lane, Halifax Way, Bath Road, and Highfield Lane, Fifield - Fifield Road, Holyport - Stroud Farm Road, and White Waltham - Innings Lane.
No decision has yet been taken on which phone boxes will be removed.
