Slough residents call for peace in Kashmir

More than 100 people have marched through the streets of Slough to protest against the recent killings of dozens of civilian demonstrators in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Members of Slough’s Kashmiri and Pakistani community say they want to raise awareness of 'India's humans rights abuses' in the region.

On Friday they marched and handed letters to councillors at Slough Town Hall calling on the international community to intervene.

In the latest wave of violence to hit the region some 50 civilian demonstrators have been killed.
The demonstrations were triggered by the donation of a piece of land in the Muslim dominated Kashmir Valley to a Hindu temple.

The UN has called for an inquiry into the killings.
Slough protester Mohammed Khan said: “We are protesting against the actions of the Indian government.
They have been opening fire on crowds of men, women and children. They have killed about 50 people."
