Fight to prevent a serious accident near school

Campaigners behind a petition signed by more than 300 villagers say a child will get seriously hurt unless the town hall clamps down on speeders racing through their village.

Organised by two mothers with children at the same primary school, the petition asks borough officials to recognise the danger of mindless motorists careering through Hurst.

Liz Chaderton and Jules Barton, whose youngsters go to St Nicholas Primary School in School Road, Hurst, decided to act after becoming concerned about the safety of pupils walking to classes.

Along with Hurst Parish Council they wants town hall chiefs to consider measures to curb reckless driving in the village - including making the whole of Hurst a 30mph zone.

The petition, which is due to be handed in to Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) on Thursday, September 25 by Hurst councillor Annette Drake, calls on the town hall to 'recognise the increasing problems of traffic' in the village.
