Weather forecast leaves Windsor hot under the collar
12:33pm Tue 2nd Sep 08:: written by Antony Quarrell
A technical glitch saw Windsor predicted a temperature which may have alarmed scientists and made even the most devoted of sun seekers think twice before venturing outside.
BBC weather presenter Kirsty McCabe gave a forecast for last Thursday which saw a scorching 232 degree temperature predicted for the town on the weather map.
However Windsor was not experiencing a case of accelerated global warming, a spokeswoman for the BBC explained: "This was clearly a typo on the graphics, which was corrected after it was noticed.
"232 degrees would have been meteorologically impossible and a bit too much even for people who had wished for a hotter summer."
In reality the maximum temperature for the area that day - which was recorded by the Meteorological Office at Heathrow - was a warm but much more manageable 20.9 degrees.
Even if the Windsor had experienced a temperature of 232 degrees it would still have someway to go to equal the core temperature of the sun, which is said to be a mind boggling 15million degrees.
