Got your number? - ask hospitals

10:53am Wed 7th Jul 10:: written by Sophie Flowers

Patients visiting hospital will be asked for their unique NHS number in an attempt to improve accuracy and patient safety.

Everyone is given a 10-digit number at birth or when registering with a GP which uniquely identifies them to the NHS and helps healthcare professionals identify a patient quickly and easily.

Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will start asking patients if they know their number, and if not, advise them how to find it out by contacting their GP surgery.
