If you have never listened to Teddy Thompson before, A Piece of What you Need is a good place to start. The fourth studio album from the singer-songwriter once again draws a heavy influence from country music and delivers clever songwriting and rich vocals. Opener The Things I Do introduces his self-deprecating and honest style and includes the line 'I'll sleep with anyone who gets in my way'. Next comes What's This?!! with a cheeky slant and catchy beat. In My Arms takes the album back to a simple country style and Can't Sing Straight is a clear nod to country legend Johnny Cash with the lyric 'Maybe I'll learn to walk the line'. Some tracks feel a little over-produced and jarr slightly with the underlying melody, but at other times it works well to create a layered, intelligent, more-ish sound.
