Cinema round-up

Here is a round-up of what's out now:
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (12A) – The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth so as Hellboy (below) and his team return, they must save the world from the rebellious creatures. As the creatures who inhabit the spiritual realm gear-up for an all-out attack, the only one capable of saving Earth is a tough-talking hellspawn that it rejected. The real star, however, is director Guillermo del Toro whose imagination creates some wondrous spectacles, not least a rampaging forest monster sequence as well as an early set-piece involving some creepy piranha-like tooth fairies.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (12A) – The poor man’s Indiana Jones Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) discover their son Alex (Luke Ford) has dropped out of school to become an explorer and has just discovered the tomb of the notorious Dragon Emperor (Jet Li). The third in the trilogy comes across as a cynical attempt to milk a system which seems to be paying the bills for some.
You Don’t Mess With The Zohan (12A) – An Israeli Special Forces soldier fakes his death so he can reemerge in New York City as a hair stylist. You Don’t Mess With the Zohan is a rude and routine Adam Sandler farce with some exceedingly sharp lines which help restore his street cred a little after a few disappointments.
The Love Guru (12A) – Mike Myers returns to the big screen after a prolonged front-of-camera absence. He needn’t have bothered. He plays an American raised abroad by gurus who returns to the States to become a self-help expert.
