FIGHTING FIT: Still walking at 91

A fighting fit pensioner is still rambling around Burnham despite celebrating his 91st birthday this summer.Familiar figure Gilbert Beaven, who lives in Hamilton Gardens, enjoys the nine mile saunter to Slough and back as well as taking on the terrain of Burnham Beeches.The former cyclist, who said that he is the last surviving of his circle of friends, goes on walking trips averaging up to 15 miles every week, even though he gets a free bus pass."I was pretty active when I was younger," he said. "I did a lot of bike racing and I don't think too much about the amount of walking I do. I like it and it's very sociable."The chatty father-of-one does not imagine he'll be slowing down anytime soon."My ears are going and my eyes aren't so good but my legs are just fine," he said.

- I grew up from burnham and I do remember this friend of my mums, we used to talk to him but I'm suprised he's so independent. I know i've tried and done 5 miles from burnham to wexham but average 15 miles per week. He encourages me at the age of 18! Still doing great you are!
