Seasick Steve - Reading Festival

2:38pm Sun 24th Aug 08:: written by Laura Enfield

Reading Festival NME stage - Saturday, August 23

Seasick Steve

Sporting his usual bushy white beard, cap and infamous three string guitar the laid back Southerner strolled on to the stage, writes Laura Enfield.

I hadn't heard much of his stuff before but word of the Yanks talent is spreading on this side of the pond and with a new album out later this year looks set to grow even further.

His style is simple. Jeans, shirt, boots and lots and lots of talent. With his son playing what looked like a washboard beside him the 'bluesman' played a set full of rhythm and humour.

Near the end he pulled a blushing young woman up on stage and seranaded her in front of the delighted crowd, who broke out in chants of 'Stevo Stevo'.

If you haven’t heard him before and are a fan of John Lee Hooker be sure to check him out.
